About Brian Sylvester

Brian is a Toronto-based business writer and editor specializing in mining related news stories and features.

Brian’s career as a business writer and editor at large started to gain steam in 2000 when, after a brief stint as a reporter with the Fort Frances Times in northwestern Ontario, he headed to Toronto to join The Northern Miner as the editorial assistant.

He quickly climbed to Production Editor in charge of producing the weekly print edition, in addition to writing and copyediting duties.

In the fall of 2007 Brian was named Editor of The Northern Miner‘s magazines, which included Diamonds in Canada and flagship investment quarterly Mining Markets. As editor he blogged on miningmarkets.ca, visited mining projects, and made regular contributions to northernminer.com, as well as the print edition.

Brian left The Northern Miner in November 2009 to try his hand as a freelancer.

He researched and wrote the award scripts and citations for the 2010 Prospector and Developers Association of Canada’s annual awards ceremony at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. It was the third time the PDAC had hired him for the job.

Since then he has written for Vancouver-based Resource World Magazine and conducted regular interviews and editing assignments for California-based Streetwise Reports, publishers of The Gold Report and The Energy Report.

He continues to seek freelance opportunities.
